A swimming weekend full of many positive emotions will be experienced by Varna residents and guests of the city during the upcoming weekend. On Saturday, July 31, the mass swimming 1000 x 1000 will take place. On August 1, Sunday, will be held the 81st traditional swimming marathon Galata – Varna. This was announced by the organizers during a press conference dedicated to the two events. So far, about 220 people from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Croatia, Russia and Bulgaria have registered to take part in the marathon.
The organizers of the marathon are the Navy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipality of Varna and the swimming champion of Bulgaria PSK “Black Sea”. The event is held with the support of the Maritime Administration, Naval School “N.Y. Vaptsarov ”, Regional Directorate“ Fire Safety and Protection of the Population ”- Varna, Medical Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, Bulgarian Red Cross, Medical University – Varna, Bulgarian Maritime Chamber, Public Transport, Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior and Municipal Police, “Ustrem” volunteer organization.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Galata – Varna Marathon is Mayor Ivan Portnih. Chief Judge is Vili Tsekov, and Chief Judge at Sea – Capt. First Rank Kamen Kukurov – Chief of Staff of the Navy. “The Municipality of Varna is always happy to assist in holding the marathon. Galata – Varna is an emblem, a business card of Varna. The Chief of Staff of the Navy Capt. I rank Kamen Kukurov – chief judge of the marathon at sea, explained that this year the finals will be on the south side of Buna № 2. He added that in order to guide the swimmers as well as possible, marking buoys will be placed.
The Chairman of the Board of PSK “Black Sea” Philip Rombaut, who traditionally swims in 1000 x 1000, and in Galata – Varna, said that the thrill of both events has already conquered the participants. “The sea is magic, it’s fantastic! The earlier children learn to swim and respect the sea, the more valuable it is for them. This is the goal of 1000 x 1000. To motivate them to swim, together with their parents, to love the sea, and, of course, to win them for the Galata-Varna marathon when they grow up! The weather will be good and the emotion unique. We’re waiting for you !”, Philip Rombaut invited the participants.
Registration for 1000 x 1000 starts on Saturday, July 31, at 8:00 am on the beach under “Mr. Baba”. The starts are at 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.. Each swimmer will participate in the raffle with his number, prizes will be awarded by the Municipality of Varna and Lucky Hunt. There will be attractive surprises from other sponsors as well. The start of the Galata-Varna marathon will be given at 9.30 am after the briefing. The new fishing port “Quarantine ”is the meeting point this year. The participants will finish on Bunite beach, next to Buna № 2. The prize fund is worth a total of BGN 6,800.
