Bulgaria should be proud of the Galata-Varna marathon.
Not only is there no such event in the national
sports history, but even in the world – events of this kind are few, one of the best swimmers in the sports history of Bulgaria Valentin Milkov is convinced.

After conducting research, he found that in terms of sequence, starting date (August 14, 1914) and traditions worldwide, Galata – Varna ranks 4th in the world. In the first place according to these criteria is the Selkie Henley marathon in England, which was first held in 1892. (www.henleyswim.com/events/henley-classic/.

Milkov commented that without the active intervention of activists and patriots, the marathon would not be what it is today: “Nadia Parusheva is among of those people who for nearly 30 years have worked tirelessly to support and create the event. Her
heart beats for the marathon!”

The famous Varna swimmer has participated in the event several times, claiming that his motive has always been because of the thrill and emotion. According to him, the fact that both professionals and amateurs swim in Galata – Varna is great.

During his active sports career, Milkov was invincible in the crawl discipline in Bulgaria. He has won hundreds of medals at national and international Championships.

The swimmer from Varna is the first Bulgarian swimmer to win a quota for the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
