The seawater at both the start and finish points of the Galata–Varna Marathon is clean, according to data provided by the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) – Varna.
The 86th edition of the traditional open-water swimming event will take place on Sunday, 26 July. The organizers are Bulgaria’s swimming champion club PSC “Cherno More”, the Bulgarian Navy, and the Municipality of Varna.
The RHI – Varna monitors a total of 23 bathing water zones.
At Asparuhovo Beach, where the marathon starts, water samples showed fewer than 15 units of intestinal enterococci per 100 cubic centimetres of water and fewer than 15 units of Escherichia coli. The reference value for enterococci is 200 units, while for Escherichia coli it is 500 units.
At Bunite Beach, where the swim finishes, the latest available data indicate fewer than 15 units of intestinal enterococci and fewer than 15 units of Escherichia coli.
Monitoring is ongoing, and new data are expected to be released in the coming days.
