The seawater at both the starting and finishing points of the Galata–Varna swimming marathon has been confirmed clean, according to the latest report from the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) – Varna.

The 85th edition of the traditional open-water marathon will take place on Sunday, July 27. The event is organized by Bulgaria’s swimming champion club PSK “Cherno More,” the Bulgarian Navy, and the Municipality of Varna.

Recent monitoring data for the Varna coastal region shows that water quality at Asparuhovo Beach (start) and Bunite Beach (finish) meets safety standards for recreational swimming.

At Asparuhovo Beach, where the race begins, tests showed fewer than 15 units of intestinal enterococci and 30 units of Escherichia coli per 100 cubic centimeters of seawater—well below the reference thresholds of 200 and 500 units, respectively.

At Bunite Beach, where the finish line is located, the latest measurements recorded 15 units of both intestinal enterococci and E. coli, also within safe limits.

New test results are expected in the coming days. RHI – Varna currently monitors a total of 23 designated bathing zones along the coast.
