For the first time in the history of the Galata – Varna swimming marathon, the participants will receive a blessing from Father Georgi from the St. Martyr Procopius of Varna Church.
Right after the swimmers receive their safety instructions and just before the start, they will be blessed for health and a successful crossing by the priest.
This summer, the traditional swim will take place on Sunday, July 27. The event is organized by Bulgaria’s swimming champion club PSK Cherno More, the Bulgarian Navy, and the Municipality of Varna.
The start is from the Karantinata area at Cape Galata, and the finish line is at Officer’s Beach – East. All participants must gather on July 27 at 6:30 AM at the meeting point – Karantinata Fishing Port in the Asparuhovo district. The finish line is on the northern side of Breakwater 102 (Second Breakwater) on the beach, marked by an arch on the shore.
For the first time in the 85-year history of the marathon, everyone who successfully completes the distance will receive a medal to mark their achievement.
