On August 4th, the 84th edition of the oldest swimming competition in Bulgaria, the Galata – Varna Marathon, will be held.The organizers are the Navy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipality of Varna and PSC “Black Sea”, with the assistance of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy.
220 participants from Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark and Turkey had registered on the marathon platform 24 hours before the online registration closed. Online registration closes at 5:00 p.m. on August 1st, but every year the organizers offer the opportunity to register at the starting point.
The assembly point – Fisherman’s port “Quarantine” opens at 6:00 a.m. on August 4th, and confirmation of registration is until 8:30 a.m. The start will be announced at 9:00 a.m. after a detailed instruction.
The winners of the 84th edition of the international swimming marathon Galata – Varna will share a prize fund of BGN 9,100.
The winners – for men and women, receive cash prizes of: 1st place – BGN 1,200;2nd place – BGN 900;3rd place – BGN 700;IV place – BGN 600;V place – BGN 500;VI place – BGN 400.
Subject prizes are also awarded to the best performing swimmers: resident of Varna;a man;a woman.
BGN 250 is the bonus for a disabled swimmer, the swimmer with the most participation in the marathon receives the same amount.
There will also be a prize – a special cup, from the family of the giant of Bulgarian marathon swimming, DobriDinev.
During the award ceremony, the emblematic Bulgarian swimming coach BorislavGeorgiev will receive a commemorative anniversary trophy.The trophy will be presented to him on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the mythical “Varna-Odessa” swimming marathon, which he successfully swam only at the age of 16.
The final of the Galata – Varna marathon is at Bunite beach (Buna 2), where the awarding ceremony will take place from 11:30 a.m.
