The winners of the Galata – Varna swimming marathon will share a higher prize fund this year. The 84th edition of the oldest swimming competition in our country will take place on August 4th, Sunday.
The start will traditionally be announced from Karantinata, but at an earlier time – at 9:00 a.m.The winners for men and women will receive BGN 1,200 each, 2nd place – BGN 900, 3rd place – BGN 700, 4th place – BGN 600 each, 5th place – BGN 500 each, 6th place – BGN 400 each. The swimmer with the most participations will be rewarded with a premium of BGN 250, the same amount will also be given to the athlete with disabilities who swam the marathon.
The participation fee for participants registered online on the marathon website https://www.varnamaraton.info/en/ will be 30 BGN (15 EUR), and for those on- spot registered – 40 BGN (20 EUR).The online registration platform will be available later.
Official planning and preparations for the event began in early June. Mr. KamenKukurov is the new Director of the Marathon from this year. He used to be a sea judge for years.
Daren Kirilov from Silistra and Gabriela Georgieva from Sofia were the winners in last year’s edition of the Marathon.Kirilov stopped the timers at 55.30 minutes, and Georgieva finished with a time of 58.11 minutes.
The organizers of the event are the Navy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipality of Varna and PSC “Black Sea”.
