Daren Kirilov from Silistra and Gabriela Georgieva (Sofia) are the winners of the 83rd edition of the Galata – Varna swimming marathon.The organizers of the event are the Navy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipality of Varna and PSC „Black Sea“.Kirilov stopped the stopwatch at 55.30 minutes, and Georgieva finished with a time of 58.11 minutes.
216 participants from Bulgaria, Armenia, Russia, Great Britain, Germany, Turkey and Belgium started from the meeting point of the marathon – Fishing port „Quarantine“.The finish was at the Bunite beach (Buna 2), where the awarding ceremony took place.
The prize winners were awarded by the mayor of Varna – Ivan Portnih, who is the chairman of the organizing committee of the marathon.Prizes were also handed out by: Navy Admiral GeorgiPenev, Deputy Commander of the Navy, the head of the municipal Sports Directorate KristiyanDimitrov, the vice-chairman of the champion of Bulgaria PSK „Black Sea“ – DobromirValev, and the doyenne of the marathon NadezhdaParusheva.
In the men’s second place went to Antony Moraliyski, Varna (56,31), and third finisher was Yassen Bonev, Varna (56,40). In the ladies second was Kalina Zaharieva, Blagoevgrad (58,44), and the third was Lora Velikova, Varna (1,05.50).
This summer, the president of the organizing club – PSC „Black Sea“, Philip Rombaut again followed the tradition and successfully swam the marathon for the 12th time.
The winners of the 83rd edition of the international swimming marathon Galata – Varna shared a prize fund of BGN 6,800.
