International Traditional Swimming Maraton Galata – Varna
Have you ever swum in a unique beautiful bay? Have you felt the magic of the water, the sun and the summer, combined with the race thrill and the quest for to reach the final sooner?
Well, you have the chance to do it! Only in Varna, only here and now!
The Galata International Traditional Swimming Maraton – Varna is held every year on the first Sunday of August. The event is open to all citizens and guests of Varna, who are over 12 years old, from all over the world.
The swimming maraton route draws the sea line from Cape Galata and ends at the second Buna on the Varna’s beach. The straight line distance is 4400 m. As it is impossible to swim in the open water with no outlined corridors, you will practically swim around 5000 m to the final. You need bravery and courage!
The Black Sea Sport Club is the strongest swimming club in Bulgaria. In its current format, the club was established in 1991.
The Black Sea Sport Club is the successor to the glorious traditions of the Varna swimming, which lead us back in the distant 1932. In its recent history, the club has changed its name several times, but it has always been the “Black Sea”: “Black Sea – Feronid”, “Black Sea – Express”, “Black Sea – Armeec” and currently only “Black Sea”.
The chairman of the Managing Board of the Black Sea Sport Club is Philip Rombaut – executive director of Agropolychim. Chief trainer is Nikola Petrov. Currently, a team of qualified trainers – Borislav Georgiev, Dorotea Slavkova, Anton Gilyarevski, Kaloyan Georgiev, Meglena Nikolova, works in the Black Sea Sport Club. They build the pyramid in all age groups. In 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Black Sea Sport Club is a complex champion and winner of “Cup Bulgaria” among all 63 members of the Bulgarian Swimming Federation.
At the moment 150 swimmers are trained and race in the Black Sea Sport Club.
The club is a permanent organizer of the traditional swimming maraton Galata – Varna, and since 2017 and the mass swimming 1000 x 1000.
